DENVER -- Denver police are investigating a Friday morning shooting involving their own officers.
The shooting happened in a parking lot at the Tequila Club near 51st and Federal around 1:16 a.m. Police said they had just finished arresting someone when they were flagged down by a woman who said there was a man with a gun inside the club.
Three officers approached the suspect and noticed that he had a gun in his waistband. Police said they tried ordering him to leave the gun alone and put his hands in the air several times but he pulled the gun and the three officers opened fire, killing the suspect.
It not known how many shots were fired, how many times the suspect was shot or if the suspect fired any shots.
The identities of the suspect and the three officers involved have not been released.
Police said there was a large group of mostly Mexican nationals in the area but when the shots were fired, most of the crowd scattered. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to call the Crimes Against Persons Bureau at (720) 913-6050. If you are Spanish speaking, you can call (720) 913-6807.
