Honey Oozes From Walls Of Home

Broomfield Man Finds New Meaning In Home 'Sweet' Home

When T.J. Graves returned from vacation last week, he found new meaning in the expression "home sweet home."

"I went up to my front step, and there were two pools of something," said Graves. "When I tried mopping it up, it was really sticky and gooey."

Graves said a brave friend did a taste test to figure out what it was.

"(He) stuck his finger in, tasted it and said, 'Yeah, that's honey,'" Graves said. "I wouldn't think it's a good thing to have honey dripping out of your walls."

Plus, where there is honey, of course, there are bees.

Graves hadn't noticed that his house had become a hive.

"I don't really like flying, stinging insects too much," he said, chuckling.

Bee remover Gene Turner came to take a look and a taste.

"I love bees. I'm a bee lover," said Turner.

He said up to 10,000 bees are making Graves' house their warm, dry, honey home.

"They are building comb after comb after comb. Them bees are busy," said Turner.

He said it's not that uncommon for bees to turn to people's houses.

"Oh yeah, we probably took out seven to eight swarms here in houses so far this year," said Turner.

But for Graves, his guests are less than welcome.

"It's great having so many new friends around, but they don't call, they don't write. I think I'm going to have to get rid of them," said Graves.

Turner said he'll take the bees to his home sweet home: a bee farm.

"They'll live happily ever after. They’ll have a nice life," he said.

Turner said he'll probably get 60 to 70 pounds of honey from the house.
