WELD COUNTY, Colo. -- Forbes magazine has named Greeley as the 13th cheapest place to live in the nation. In an article titled "Where to live cheaply," Forbes looked at America's 380 metropolitan statistical areas and metropolitan divisions. First it ranked all of the metros on cost-of-living data from Moody's Economy.com and home affordability figures from the National Association of Home Builders and Wells Fargo.Once the 100 cheapest metro areas were established, Forbes rated them across four quality-of-life measures: violent crime rate, from the Federal Bureau of Investigation; unemployment rate, from the Bureau of Labor Statistics; average salary for college grads, from Payscale.com; and cultural opportunity, based on the leisure index from Sperling's Best Places. In our slideshow, we pulled out the top three from each of the country's Census-designated regions.
“Our cost of living is reasonable compared to others,” Greeley Chamber of Commerce President Sarah MacQuiddy told the Greeley Tribune. “It's a wonderful place, it's a wonderful community to live in, and it's a community for all people.”Colorado Springs ranked 42nd and Pueblo placed 76th, according to the Greeley Tribune. In March, Weld was ranked as No. 37 on Forbes' list of 200 best places for business and careers.
