POSTED: 2:14 pm MDT July 21, 2009
DURANGO, Colo. -- Health officials have confirmed four cases of H1N1, also known as the swine flu, at a southwest Colorado camp. The San Juan Basin Health Department said Monday the four were at Camp Kanakuk in Bayfield, 15 miles east of Durango and 215 miles southwest of Denver. Officials said all four were from out of state. Officials didn't release their hometowns or say whether they were campers or staff.
The camp reported on July 14 that 74 campers and staff had flu-like symptoms. Officials say no one had to be hospitalized. Camp managers said anyone with flu symptoms was quarantined, and no one was allowed to leave until they went 24 hours without symptoms. The camp cabins and dining hall were washed with a cleaner recommended by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.Kanakuk Colorado has been located in Bayfield since 2000 and provides children from all over the world with an "exciting adventure in Christian athletics," according to its Web site.
