ESTES PARK, Colo. -- Apparently bears like the cookies baked by former 7 News anchor Katie Trexler. This weekend, Trexler and her family were staying in a cabin at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park when Trexler heard noise in the kitchen. Trexler thought it was her dad emptying the dishwasher.Trexler went to ask him to stop and instead saw a bear heading out a window.
Trexler told 7NEWS the bear opened her tupperware container of chocolate chip cookies and ate them all.The family even managed to snap a photo of the bear as he left. This is the second time this has happened to Trexler.Three years ago, Trexler and her family spent a week in Snowmass in the Summer. That year Trexler had very young children and had asked everyone to be quiet. When she heard a noise late at night in the kitchen, she sent her husband to tell everyone to quiet down.It wasn't family making the noise, it was once again a bear, eating Trexler's chocolate chip cookies.Randy Hampton of the Colorado Division of Wildlife said: "It doesn't matter [if it's cookies], bears will eat anything they can get to. Bears will do thousands of dollars of damage opening cupboards or a refrigerator.""Bears will actually pull out drawers to make stairs to get to upper cabinets," Hampton said.
