A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the sexual assault of an 8-year-old girl in Douglas County.

Deputies and the Parker Police Department investigated a prowler call in the Stonegate subdivision early Friday and obtained a license plate number of a suspicious vehicle. It was traced to a home in the same subdivision.

Detectives responded to the address the vehicle was registered to and found Tyler A. Sanchez sitting in his vehicle. Sanchez was placed under arrested for investigation of second-degree trespassing and probation violation.

On Saturday, officers determined that Sanchez was a suspect in the July 10 sexual assault. In that case, an intruder climbed through a second-story window of a home in the 16000 block of Quarry Hill Drive and sexually assaulted an 8-year-old girl who had been asleep.

Sanchez was additionally charged with first-degree burglary, sexual assault on a child and unlawful sexual contact. He is being held on $1 million bond.

Investigators said that Sanchez has a criminal history that involves felony criminal mischief, for which he is currently on probation, along with a restraining order violation involving the use of alcohol.

Douglas County Sheriff David A. Weaver did not say what evidence allegedly connected Sanchez to the sexual assault.

Weaver stressed the case was still ongoing and said more information may be released once the case has been filed with the District Attorney's Office.

"I give a huge amount of thanks to all those involved in this case, both from the sheriff's office, the district attorney's office and the Parker Police Department. I hope that the residents of Stonegate feel a lot safer knowing that an arrest has been made and that someone will be held accountable for what occurred," said Weaver.

A photo of Sanchez was not immediately released because investigators will still need to conduct photo lineups.
