Body, Marijuana Growing Operation Found In Boulder County Home

Investigators Say Drugs, Death Are Unrelated

A 20-year-old man was found dead at a Boulder home, along with a large marijuana growing operation over the weekend.

Authorities said Jonathan D. Cooper-Sidman, Boulder, was staying with friends at the home and that it’s not clear if his death is drug related.

“We will follow all avenues and complete a thorough investigation to make sure that there is no foul play involved,” said Sgt. Jason Oehlkers, with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

Police went to the house late Saturday after a 911 call reported a person not breathing with no pulse. Sheriff's Sgt. Tom McGrath said officers found a large marijuana grow operation inside, but that the drugs are not believed to be related to the death of Cooper-Sidman.

The coroner's office said more lab tests would need to be done before the cause of death could be determined.

Janett Cooper, Jonathan’s mother, is suspicious about whether her son’s death was reported in a timely manner.

She said she believes someone in the home knew that he had overdosed on some type of drugs but had been reluctant to come forward.

“I think somebody’s not telling me the whole story because they don’t want me to know,” said Cooper.

She said her son had been staying with friends at the home while he worked for a recording studio and that he had told her the homeowner was growing medicinal marijuana.

Investigators said they are still trying to determine if the growers were licensed to grow marijuana and if they were doing it legally.

No arrests have been made, yet, but a search warrant was served on the home.
