DENVER -- Details on a new wind project for the Eastern Plains are set to be announced Monday. Gov. Bill Ritter and officials from Tri-State Generation and Transmission plan to hold a press conference about the project at the state Capitol. Ritter's office says it will be Tri-State's first large wind project in the state. Tri-State is a wholesale electric supplier based in Westminster.
It currently gets 72 percent of its power from coal and roughly 1 percent from wind and solar. By contrast, Minneapolis-based Xcel Energy, Colorado's largest electric utility, gets 10 percent of its power from renewable energy sources.
