It's been a busy travel weekend in the High Country despite the recession.

Over 47,000 vehicles passed through the Eisenhower Tunnel on Friday, making it the tunnel's fifth busiest travel day ever. Volume was just above that of July 3, 2003.

Sunday is turning into another busy travel day.

"We knew traffic was going to be bad, so we left early," said Joe Donnelly, who was driving home from Granby. "I think we have been on the road for three hours."

Eastbound traffic between Vail and Denver is causing delays and heavy traffic is expected all afternoon.

"there was just as much traffic as on a ski day," said Amanda Donnelly. "I am tired of being in the car."

Breckenridge's holiday parade was packed with visitors and restaurants and retailers say they've been busy this weekend.

The outlet stores in Silverthorne stayed open until midnight on Friday to attract customers.

But Tim West, the supervisor at Main Street Outlet in Breckenridge, said visitors don't seem to be spending as much as last year.
