Texas Runaway, Daughter Sought In Colo.

Jenny Leigh Smith's Daughter May Need Medical Help

POSTED: 10:18 am MDT July 3, 2009

Wheat Ridge police are looking for a 17-year-old runaway from Texas, traveling with her 9-month-old daughter and 50-year-old stepfather.

Jenny Leigh Smith, her daughter, Jennifer Leigh Carlton-Aguilar, and Johnny Aguilar, were found residing at the American Motel in Wheat Ridge on Tuesday, after police received a tip on their possible whereabouts.

Police said they found drugs and drug paraphernalia in the motel room where the three were staying. Police charged Smith and Aguilar with possession of drug paraphernalia. Jenny Smith was also charged with child abuse after police said she admitted smoking marijuana in front of her baby.

There were no active warrants out for the mother and stepfather, so both were released pending appearance on the charges.

On Wednesday, the Wheat Ridge Police Department received an order from Harris County, Texas, to take Jenny into immediate custody. When police went back to the motel they found the three had checked out a few hours earlier, leaving several personal items behind.

Police have now asked for the public's help in finding the trio because the baby is said to have a medical condition that requires regular doctor visits.

Jenny Leigh Smith is described as a white female, 5-feet 5-inches tall, weighing 213 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

She may be in the company of Johnny Aguilar, who is described as a white male, 5-feet 11-inches tall, weighing 200 pounds, with black hair, blues eyes, and mustache. Police released a booking photo of Aguilar but did not have a picture of Smith available.

According to police the three may be in a red, 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier, possible temporary plate VIN/1G1J14458R7378534, which was recently purchased by Aguilar. They may also be in a white 2000 Ford Ranger, extended cab. The last known license plate is expired, but was Texas 9JX75.

Anyone who has seen the trio is asked to contact Detective Mark Slavsky at 303-809-0256 or Sgt. Lila Cohen at 303-882-2863.
