SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. -- A helicopter pilot who was injured when he crashed on Quandary Peak in Summit County was undergoing surgery Friday.The Bell 206 crashed at approximately 11:30 a.m. Thursday, while delivering supplies to a mine in the area, said Pam Henderson with the Summit County Sheriff's Office.The helicopter is owned by Aviation Tech Services of Englewood, Colo.
After communication with the chopper was lost, a second ATS helicopter began a search, discovering the crash site 2.5 miles west of the Blue Lakes Dam in the Hoosier Pass area.The helicopter crashed at an elevation of approximately 13,000 feet in the area of the Monte Cristo Creek drainage.The second helicopter crew called ATS headquarters, which then reported the crash to the sheriff's office around 2:45 p.m.Pilot Dan Kin Brown was airlifted to St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver with back injuries. A person on the ground was injured by flying debris in the crash.The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and will be investigating.
