Plane Misses Runway In Steamboat Springs Crash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. -- A small airplane botched its landing on Thursday morning, crashing in a field in Steamboat Springs.Steamboat Springs Police said the plane, flown by a Steamboat Springs resident, came in for a landing at around 11 a.m. However the pilot aborted the landing and attempted to do a fly by instead. But the plane ended up crashing into a small gully on the airport property.Anne Small, risk manager for the City of Steamboat Springs, said the male pilot and two children on board were not seriously injured. The plane was a single-engine aircraft.
Small added the airport was closed for less than an hour.The crash remains under investigation. Small said National Transportation Safety Board investigators are expected to arrive on Friday.
