A toddler has died after apparently falling into Gore Creek in Vail while walking with his mother.

Eagle County Coroner Kara Bettis identified the boy as 2-year-old Colin Cassidy of Edgewater, Colo. Vail officials said Sara Cassidy, the boy's mother, lost track of her son as she was tending to her baby daughter while on a walk on a recreation path alongside the creek near the Wren Condominiums.

About 25 minutes after the mother called 911, a construction worker from the Ritz-Carlton pulled the boy out from the water, east of the Cascade Resort, about a mile downstream. Two passersby tried to resuscitate him before paramedics arrived.

The boy was pronounced dead at Vail Valley Medical Center. The family was in Vail for a lacrosse tournament.

An autopsy will determine the cause of death.

Gore Creek and other local creeks and rivers are running very high and fast after a prolonged and extremely wet spring, RealVail.com reported.
