DENVER -- The strong storm that blew through Denver on Friday afternoon caused a stir on the tarmac at Denver International Airport when

Gusty conditions blew a luggage cart into an airplane at the airport during the storm.

Southwest Airlines confirmed that one of its Boeing 737s -- Flight 3601 from Denver to Oakland -- was struck by a luggage cart on the tarmac. The plane was taxiing from the gate when the cart struck the landing gear of the plane.

The flight crew heard the collision and ground crew saw it happen, Southwest Airlines spokesman Paul Flanigan said.

According to Southwest Airlines, the plane, which was carrying 111 passengers, taxied back to the gate and passengers were taken off the plane.

Passengers were delayed about three hours as a new plane was found to take them to Oakland.

Southwest Airlines said the plane has been taken out of rotation and is still being checked by maintenance for damage.
