Eric Kophs Fell Off Raft Into Colorado River Saturday

DENVER -- Searchers will resume looking for a Cherry Creek School District official who fell off a raft into the Colorado River over the weekend and is presumed drowned.Eric Kophs, 42, of Aurora, was fishing with a friend on a raft near Radium, southwest of Kremmling, Saturday when the raft went into the Needle's Eye Rapids and Kophs fell into the water.He was not wearing a life jacket, according to searchers.
A two-day search was halted Monday because the river was running too fast. The school district said the search would resume Friday."Our thoughts and prayers are with him, his family and those who are searching for him," said Cherry Creek School District Superintendent Mary Chesley.District personnel have been at the scene aiding the Grand County Sheriff’s Department and Grand County Search and Rescue, Chesley said.Kophs was the director of elementary education for the school district and started with the district as a teacher in 1995. His wife is an assistant principal in the district.
