STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. -- A prayer vigil is planned Tuesday for the family of a woman missing after falling into a creek near Steamboat Springs. Rebecca Green, 40, fell into Fish Creek on Saturday afternoon while hiking with her 8-year-old son. Searchers have found her hat and shoes but the search was scaled back Monday because of dangerous heavy water flow. A spokeswoman for search crews said hopes of finding Green are fading and the search and rescue mission has turned into a search and recovery mission.
Green's father said she fell in while trying to help her son back from a rock. He said the boy slipped and Green fell in while trying to catch him. The boy said he was able to grab a branch and pull himself out. Green was swept away. The vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the United Methodist Church, where Green has been an active volunteer.
