The search for a Steamboat Springs woman who fell into a creek is being scaled back until water levels drop to safer flows.

A spokeswoman for search crews said hopes of finding 40-year-old Rebecca Green alive were fading.

Searchers have found a hat and shoes belonging to a missing Steamboat Springs woman who fell into a creek over the weekend.

Rebecca Green, 40, and her 8-year-old son, Kade, fell into Fish Creek while hiking Saturday. Kade was rescued and was treated and released at a hospital, but his mother hasn't been found.

"Kade had gotten out onto this rock (and) we just hollered at him to come back, and Rebecca went after him. And must have been he slipped and tumbled, and she tried to rescue him," Green’s father told the Steamboat Pilot. "I saw her reaching for him, and that was it."

The Routt County Search and Rescue Team found the hat and shoes Sunday. Searchers resumed the hunt Monday.

Team spokeswoman Riley Polumbus said hopes of finding Green alive are fading because so much time has passed since she disappeared.

Green's husband, Rodney Green, was in San Diego on Saturday but has returned and spent much of the day Sunday with search crews at a trailhead near the spot where his wife disappeared.
