Police Say Driver May Have Been Trying To Avoid DUI Checkpoint

DENVER -- A suspected drunken driver who rolled his vehicle Saturday may have been trying to avoid a DUI checkpoint, troopers said.Seven people, including three children, were riding in the SUV when it rolled on a slight corner on U.S. Highway 6 near Loma around 3 p.m., reported the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel.Deputies were setting up a DUI checkpoint in Loma at the time of the crash. Sgt. Jeff Lytle of the Colorado State Patrol told the Sentinel the SUV was headed to Highline Lake State Park when the crash happened.
The most direct route to the park from Grand Junction is on Highway 139. "Makes you wonder," Lytle told the Sentinel.Three adults and two children were taken to the hospital after being thrown from the vehicle, he said. Their injuries did not appear life-threatening.
