COMMERCE CITY, Colo. -- A van may be the key to solving the killing of a shopkeeper in Commerce City.Police have released surveillance video taken near the store. It shows the vehicle parked in the area of East 63rd Place and Ivy Street last Wednesday.Investigators think someone in the van may have seen something that could lead them to an arrest in the slaying of Dung Viet Le. The van is white, with tinted windows.
A customer walked into the Dollar Value Plus one week ago and found Le on the floor. He had been shot multiple times.Le later died at the hospital. Le's family said his soldier father fled Vietnam at the end of the war in the 1970s, having fought for the American-supported South Vietnamese, but the rest of the family stayed behind. They said Le came to the United States in 1991.Le, 48, was recently laid off as a design engineer and was working at the store every day, but was having trouble making the lease payments. He is survived by his wife and 5-year-old daughter.Neighboring shopkeepers in the same strip mall fear that the shooting is the result of a botched robbery, but investigators have not disclosed a potential motive. If you know anything about this case, call police. You could receive a $1,500 reward.Commerce City Police Department will be holding a news conference at 9:30 a.m. Thursday to update the media on the case.
