Police Impersonator Sought In Larimer County

POSTED: 1:11 p.m. MST February 11, 2003

Larimer County officials have asked the public for information about a suspected police impersonator driving an unmarked Jeep with flashing lights.

A police dispatcher reported earlier that she was stopped by a man driving a dark-color sport utility vehicle with red and blue strobe lights on the dashboard a little more than a mile from the home of Lacy Miller and less than two weeks before the college student disappeared.

Miller, 20, was abducted and killed last month and police believe the suspect may have posed as a police officer to pull her over.

Jason Peder Clausen, 22, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and second-degree kidnapping in Miller's death.

Clausen, a former security guard, had a red-and-blue light installed on the dashboard of his white Ford Expedition, according to court records.

In the latest case, authorities said a 19-year-old man was seen driving a white Jeep Cherokee with the words "K-9" and "L-22" on the rear side of the vehicle. The Jeep may have had a flashing emergency light on the dashboard and flashing headlights.

The suspect was seen wearing a baseball cap with the word "police" on the front of it. Authorities didn't say when the vehicle was seen, or if it was related to the Miller case.

Anyone with information on the latest impersonation case was asked to call investigator Jim Sullivan at (970) 498-5169.
