COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Colorado Springs police officers captured a bear after an extensive search on Thursday morning.Colorado Division of Wildlife officials successfully tranquilized the bear and got it into a cage shortly before noon, according to KRDO-TV. The capture happened at Monument Valley Park, KRDO-TV reports.Michael Seraphin, spokesman for the division of wildlife, said the bear was an adolescent male.
"He was probably kicked out by his mother this year," Seraphin said. "It's more common to this (with younger bears) because they are looking for a new place to set up a territory."The bear will be tagged and relocated outside of town, Seraphin said. Bears are given two chances to not become a nuisance animal before lethal action is taken. The black bear was originally spotted by residents about 5:30 a.m. near the intersection of North Wahsatch Avenue and East Boulder Street, the Gazette reported. It was spotted again in Acacia Park about 8 a.m.When officers started following the bear, he ran into a residential area west of Cascade Avenue, near the Monument Valley Trail.
