Westminster Man Charged With Sex Assault On Child

Police Say Assault Took Place 10 Years Ago

UPDATED: 7:25 am MDT June 4, 2009

A 58-year-old Westminster man active in church organizations as well as the Boy Scouts of America is accused of sexually assaulting two boys 10 years ago.

Westminster police said James Gordon McLees was arrested Tuesday after two juvenile victims came forward.

"They stated that there was some inappropriate touching," said Cheri Spottke, an investigator with the Westminster Police Department. "These two male parties came forward 10 years later because they felt something was done to them that was wrong. We're just concerned that because it is such a hard type of crime to report that there may be other potential victims out there."

At Tri-City Baptist Church, where McLees once volunteered in the children's ministry, Pastor Will Senn said he didn't know McLees, but that the accusations are saddening.

"Hopefully, if anyone else was affected by this, they will surface now," said Senn.

McLees is being held for investigation of sexual assault on a child. Police are asking any other potential victims to come forward and contact investigators at 303-658-4248.

McLees is in custody at the Jefferson County Detention Facility on a $50,000 bond.
