GOLDEN, Colo. -- Golden police officers said they have arrested two Golden High School students suspected of torching a school staff member's car with a Molotov cocktail. The students, whose names and ages were not released, turned themselves in to police Tuesday and were transported to Mount View Detention Center. Both juveniles could be charged with second-degree arson, possession of a weapon on school grounds, possession of an incendiary device and criminal mischief, police said.
Over the past several days, Golden police and Golden firefighters have obtained substantial evidence which led to the arrests of both juveniles, said Golden police spokesman Jeff Hesalroad. The car, which was on the school parking lot, was set on fire about 9:37 a.m. on May 22.Investigators quickly deduced that the vehicle had been intentionally set on fire through the use of an incendiary device. The vehicle belonged to the campus supervisor, who works at the high school and helps with security issues but is not a security officer, said school district spokeswoman Lynn Setzer. No students or staff members were injured by the fire.
