DENVER -- Aurora firefighters rescued a shiba inu who crawled into a storm drainage pipe Sunday.Firefighters said they were called to Iowa Elementary School where the dog's owners said the dog had gone into the pipe and would not come out.The pipe was more than 125 feet long and drained water from the school's roof. It passed under concrete walkways and portions went under the school, said Cpt. Allen Robnett of the Aurora Fire Department.
Firefighters along with school maintenance employees were able to dig an access hole and cut a hole in the pipe for a search camera, Robnett said.Eventually the water from the afternoon storm ran through the pipe enough for the dog to ride the pipe similar to a water slide. Rescuers were able to grab the dog and pull him to freedom, he said. This rescue was the third of unusual rescues for Aurora firefighters in the past two days, Robnett said. The other two involved ducklings who fell through drainage grates.
