Adler Volmar Suspended From U.S. Team

POSTED: 12:53 pm MDT May 20, 2009

A member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic judo team has been ordered to stand trial on charges that he raped a 15-year-old girl in Colorado Springs.

The teenager was in Colorado Springs to compete in a judo tournament.

Adler Volmar, 32, of Coral Gables, Fla, was arrested after the girl told police that she became lost and disoriented after drinking with her teammates at a local nightclub. She told police she had seven alcoholic drinks including a "Volcano" and several "Car Bombs" and became separated from her roommate at the club.

The girl said she ran into Volmar and he helped her back to the Antlers Hilton hotel. She said she ended up in Volmar's room with her clothes off and she remembered telling him, "no" several times as she tried to push him off.

The alleged incident occurred on Sept. 28, 2008.

Volmar is a 2007 Pan American bronze medalist who competed for Haiti at the 1996 Olympics and the United States at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

He was suspended from the U.S. judo team following his arrest.
