The latest Bachelorette, Jillian Harris, hit the airwaves Monday night and faced her first surprise of the season. While she may have greeted the typical 25 suitors outside, five more men joined the introduction cocktail party later in the evening. This is the first season to feature 30 suitors. She may have been looking for quality, however she also got quantity. The bachelors and fans know Jillian Harris as the woman Bachelor Jason Mesnick didn't pick. When there were three women left, he let Jillian go, breaking her heart. While Jason didn't pick Jillian, ABC picked her as the next bachelorette. This is the fifth season for the female version of the ABC's popular romance reality series. Jillian, 29, is a restaurant interior designer from Vancouver, British Columbia.
Jillian told viewers she fell in love with Jason on the last season and had no regrets about going on the Bachelor TV show, but she also took a dig at Jason when she said, "I'm going to make the right decision the first time."She told viewers she's looking for what she calls "Mister Invisible," because he doesn't have a face right now. She's looking for her soul mate, her best friend. She called her first day as the Bachelorette "the first day of the rest of my life."As the men got out of the limos, there were some who gave her gifts like Jake, the airline pilot who gave her a set of wings. (He got a rose.)There was one who was completely tongue tied, but David got the first impression rose, based on his second impression. There was Greg who asked Jillian not once, but twice, to "hug it out." He also quickly shared that he has married five couples. He didn't get a rose.Clothing didn't seem to matter. Caleb wore jeans, he didn't get a rose. Mathue wore a cowboy hat, he did get a rose. Two men swept Jillian off her feet, literally. Bryan did it outside during his introduction, Matheu did it during the party. Mathue got a rose, Bryan did not.Two men from Denver both got roses. Mark, 26, the pizza entrepreneur and Tanner F., 28, the sales representative. Tanner told Jillian he is looking for his best friend, referencing how Jason let Jillian go because he only felt she was a friend. On his introduction he even brought up how he wanted to be the man next to her in rocking chairs when they were 90.Mark also made a reference to the last season when he asked Jillian about her favorite pizza toppings. While we heard her answer, we never heard what her answer meant. Last season Jillian had asked Jason about his favorite hot dog topping.Wes won a spot quickly in Jillian's heart by singing a song using a guitar conveniently set up nearby.Julian won points with me when he said thank you to the limo driver when he exited the limo. I'm not sure I've seen anyone do that before.Sasha from Serbia, Simon from England (who was subtitled for his introduction) and Juan from Argentina all got roses. So did Mike, 28, who threw Jillian a baseball and when she caught it, he called her a "good catch."Jesse, 27, wore a T-shirt under his suit that said "aspiring Canadian." That may have helped him win a rose. And maybe the biggest surprise of the night was the rose to Tanner P. Tanner P got a lot of time on TV talking about how he had to see Jillian's feet. He did and we heard way too much about the importance of high arches, no toe jam and much more. Jillian said she was really relaxed around him. I don't know if viewers are going to relax around him or just keep their shoes on.After 20 roses were handed out, 10 men said goodbye. So what's next? ABC's Web site says once again during the season, trios of lucky bachelors will live in the mansion with Jillian, while the rest of the men must live together in an unspectacular bunkhouse down the hill. In previews we saw Jillian traveling to Hawaii, Canada and Spain for various dates. ABC said Jillian will take one lucky man on her ultimate dream date: a private concert by Grammy Award-winner Martina McBride. And seven bachelors will go on a group date to Venice Beach, California, for a game of pick-up basketball. Little did they know that they would play against the world famous Harlem Globetrotters. There's more, but why spoil the fun.So, what did you think of Jillian's choices and the men she let go? Leave your comments below.
