Bryant-Webster Student Finds Classmate's 'Kill List'

Parent Unhappy With School's Handling Of Situation

A Bryant-Webster student said she found a classmate's journal last week and found a "kill list" inside it. The student said she was one of the targets.

"She does kind of scare me and I consider her a threat," said the student.

The girl's mother, "Rita," showed 7NEWS copies of the journal. She asked that her daughter's name and her last name be withheld to protect their identities.

The journal contained several disturbing drawings of girls being hung by nooses and a list that included the names of eight people the girl's female classmate wanted to kill. On the right side of the list were sketches of various weapons that the classmate would use to kill these people.

"For me, it crossed the line when she put down the names and (corresponding) weapons," Rita said.

The mother said she turned the list over to police who then turned it over to the school. The school district said they conducted a threat assessment and didn't identify a "viable" one. The mother said she is upset the student is still in school.

Denver Public Schools said they were aware of the incident and were providing the student and the guardian the support they need.

They said in the absence of a "viable" threat they could not remove the student or punish her for expressing herself. The mother said the school isn't being careful enough in the wake of Colorado's Columbine tragedy.
