Man Arrested, Accused Of Pulling Gun On Cyclist
Boulder County Confrontation Escalates
POSTED: 10:23 am MDT May 5, 2009
BOULDER, Colo. -- A Lafayette man has been arrested and booked into the Boulder County jail, accused of pulling a gun on a man riding a bike. Sheriff's deputies arrested 52-year-old Roy Ragas late Monday for investigation of felony menacing. Cmdr. Rick Brough said the cyclist, Mark Copeland, 44, of Boulder, motioned for Ragas to move over after Ragas drove within 3-4 feet of the bike in the eastbound lanes of Baseline Road near 75th Street. Brough said that after Ragas passed the bicycle, he turned around and drove next to it.
Brough said an argument broke out and Ragas brandished a handgun and threatened Copeland. Ragas told authorities that Copeland spat at him. Brough said Copeland was not ticketed and didn't appear to have broken any laws. It wasn't immediately clear if Ragas had an attorney.
