FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Authorities in Larimer County on Sunday said that a body found along a rural road appeared to be that of missing college student Lacy Miller.
A large crime scene was established near Highway 15 and Stove Prairie Road (pictured below) following the discovery of the corpse on Saturday.
Authorities said they believed the body was that of Miller, a University of Northern Colorado sophomore who has been missing since last Saturday.
"We identified an area late in the afternoon (Saturday) that we wanted to further investigate," said Fort Collins polce spokeswoman Rita Davis. "We secured the scene for the evening. We started out at 7:30 a.m. (Sunday morning) working the area. At 12 p.m. today we confirmed we found a body. And it's the body of the person we believe to be Lacy Miller."
The body was removed and taken by the Larimer County Coroner's Office for positive identification.
Police are not saying what led them to the rural road in Larimer County.
Miller was last seen on Jan. 18 after dropping off a friend in Fort Collins.
Her parents became suspicious when they found her black Mitsubishi Mirage locked and parked on the street two doors away from their home. Family members said that this was odd because she only parked on the driveway or in the garage.
On the following Tuesday, 22-year-old Jason Clausen was arrested for her murder and abduction.
Police believe Clausen was posing as a police officer and may have tried to pull her over on her way home to her parents' house.
Clausen, 22, was known to drive around in his white Ford Expedition with red and blue flashing lights and "act like a cop," according to sheriff's records.
When sheriff's deputies stopped Clausen during a patrol earlier this month, they found handcuffs, mace, a ski mask, a bail bondsman's badge and a set of red and blue flashing emergency lights inside his SUV.
He was so evasive during questioning that his concealed weapons permit for the handgun and rifle he had in the SUV was revoked, sheriff's spokeswoman Eloise Campanella said.
Detectives said they have recovered several of Miller's personal belongings, including her identification, in Clausen's possession.
