A 2-car accident resulted in two fatalities, including a teenager, in Park County on Saturday afternoon.

At about 12:20 p.m. two Nissan Xterra SUVs, traveling in opposite directions on U.S. Highway 285, collided head on, the Colorado State Patrol reported. One of the deceased has been identified as 16-year-old Kjersti Anderson of Bailey, Colo.

Investigators said about 10 miles north of Fairplay, Colo., a 2008 Xterra traveling northbound crossed the double-yellow center line into the wrong direction, causing the accident. The driver, a 44-year-old male from Ore., of that vehicle was pronounced at the scene. A passenger, Betty J. Burwell of Salida, Colo., was transported with serious bodily injuries to Swedish Medical Center in Denver.

Both Anderson and Burwell were wearing their seat belts. The male driver of the 2008 Xterra was not.

The Colorado State Patrol is still investigating the accident.
