DENVER, Colo. -- Colorado health officials are standing behind the decision not to add flu vaccines to the state's stockpile.Currently, the state has fewer than 700,000 doses, which is enough for about 15 percent of the state's population. Health authorities said they will not buy flu vaccines to cover 25 percent of the population, as suggested by federal health authorities.Vaccine stockpiles are being closely looked at since the outbreak of the swine flu that has sickened dozens in the United States.
Colorado health officials said pandemics are better addressed by preventing large crowds and encouraging basic hygiene such as handwashing.
