PUEBLO, Colo. -- A teenage girl is dead and three other people have been taken to hospitals after a one-vehicle crash east of Pueblo. The Colorado State Patrol said a 16-year-old girl was driving a 2000 Oldsmobile van eastbound along Colorado 96 near Boone, Colo., when the van went off the right side of the road, struck a pole and hit a bridge embankment at about 6:20 p.m. Sunday. The van then came to rest in an irrigation ditch. The girl was airlifted to St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center in Pueblo, where she died. Three other people, including a 3-year-old boy, were taken to hospitals with undisclosed injuries.
The boy was in a safety seat. The state patrol said it was unclear if the others were wearing seat belts. No names have been released.A teacher at Crowley County High School, in Ordway, told The Pueblo Chieftain that the girl who died was a student there, and that she had been traveling with her mother, nephew and a female friend from school. Boone is 20 miles east of Pueblo and 110 miles southeast of Denver.
