DACONO, Colo. -- A go-kart driver is hospitalized in critical condition after being struck in the head by a wheel that broke off from another go-kart on a track in Dacono. The accident happened around 2 p.m. Sunday at IMI Motorsports.Track owner Brad Linkus says 61-year-old Rich Vito of Longmont was driving when a rear tire of another go-kart broke off, rolled along the side of the track and bounced up into Vito as he was driving. He estimates that Vito may have been going 40 mph.
Linkus said Vito was wearing a helmet."It’s just one of those freak crashes," Lisa Underwood, who works in the IMI offices, told the Greeley Tribune. "The bolt sheared on the other car and for some reason the tire just flew off the car."
