BOULDER, Colo. -- Rex, the dog found taped to a refrigerator in a home in Boulder last week is now with a foster family.

The foster family has two other shiba inus, the family hopes to adopt Rex by the end of the week.

"We're trying to make sure he's safe and healthy and ready to be adopted," a representative for the Boulder Humane Society told 7NEWS Wednesday.

Police say Abby Toll used tape and rubber bands to wrap up Bryan Beck's dog Rex after it made a mess on the carpet. Police said they noticed a big ball of tape stuck on the side of the refrigerator when they arrived.

"The ball of tape appeared to be moving," said Sarah Huntley of the Boulder Police department. "The officer asked the individuals what it was and the female replied it was a dog."

Police took the taped dog and another dog to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley.

The shelter told the Boulder Daily Camera newspaper that the shelter got requests from families as far away as New York, California and Wisconsin — all of them willing to drive to Colorado to pick Rex up and provide a home for him.

Toll has been charged with felony animal cruelty in the incident with the dog. She's also been charged with third-degree assault and tampering in connection with the argument with Beck.
