Warm-Up Increases Rock, Mud Slide Threat
Several Highways Temporarily Closed By Slides This Weekend

DENVER -- This week's forecast warm-up is expected to increase the risk of mud and rock slides in Colorado's high country.U.S. 34, about 11 miles east of Estes Park; U.S. 285 at Kenosha Pass and Colorado 7 between Jamestown and Lyons were closed for a couple hours Sunday night because of rock slidesNo vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.
"With the amount of moisture we have received in the high country, unfortunately, the potential for rock slides exists anywhere in the high country and in the canyon areas" said CDOT spokesperson Mindy Crane.CDOT will be closely watching U.S. 6 through Clear Creek and I-70 over Georgetown Hill, both are areas where it traditionally sees more slides.If extra work is needed to clean up slides, CDOT says it will find the money. "When we are dealing with issues related to the safety of the traveling public, we will make sure we have funds there," said Crane.
