College President To Boycott Churchill Speech

POSTED: 11:21 am MDT April 9, 2009

Ward Churchill has been invited to speak to students at Fort Lewis College this weekend.

But Fort Lewis' president said he won't go because of academic integrity allegations against the former University of Colorado-Boulder professor.

Earlier this month a Denver jury concluded that CU wrongly fired Churchill after he wrote an inflammatory essay about the people with died in the Sept. 11 attacks. The university argued Churchill was fired not for the essay but for plagiarism.

Churchill is speaking this weekend at the invitation of an American Indian student group. Fort Lewis president Brad Barrel said in a statement he would not attend Churchill's remarks because he said the professor violated academic integrity.
