CENTENNIAL, Colo. -- Opening arguments are under way in the death penalty trial of a man accused of masterminding the slaying of a trial witness and his fiancee on an Aurora street. Twenty-three-year-old Robert Ray is one of three men accused in the June 2005 slayings of Javad Marshall-Fields and Vivian Wolfe, both 21. Marshall-Fields was to testify against Ray in the slaying of another man, Gregory Vann, at an Aurora park in 2004.
A jury last year convicted Ray's friend, Sir Mario Owens, of killing the couple. He was sentenced to death. The third man, Parish Carter, is awaiting trial.
