March 22, 2009: Helping Colorado's Most Vulnerable

Homebound Coloradans are feeling the economic squeeze more strongly than average residents. This week's 7Everyday Hero makes sure the most vulnerable members of our community are not forgotten.

Every Thursday, The Lakewood United Methodist Church is transformed into a food factory. Volunteers from the church, the Jeffco Action Center and the Volunteers of America work together to provide Meals on Wheels. Nancy Collier has volunteered there every week since 1980.

"It grows on you - it's something that once you start you can't quit," said Collier, this week's 7Everyday Hero.

This particular Meals on Wheels serves more than 90 people.

"It keeps people in their homes - that's the one thing it really does and a sense of dignity and pride," said Mag Strittmatter, Executive Director of the Jeffco Action Center.
