DENVER -- An Arizona law professor who sat on the committee investigating Ward Churchill’s academic work delivered a blistering critique of his work in a Denver courtroom Friday.

Robert Clinton testified on behalf of the University of Colorado and told jurors that Churchill violated acceptable practices. Churchill is suing to get his job back. He claims he was fired because of public outrage over his Sept. 11 essay, which equated the victims of the attack to Nazis.

Clinton testified for more than two hours and told jurors that he and the investigative committee tried to give Churchill the benefit of the doubt. In the end, he said they could not overlook Churchill's shortcomings.

He accused Churchill of "fabricating" evidence and "misusing sources."

Churchill and his supporters contend that his writings reflect the Native American perspective and incorporate the oral history which has been passed down from generation to generation.

Churchill is expected to be one of the first witnesses on the stand when the trial resumes on Monday.
