AURORA, Colo. -- A restaurant owner in Aurora got a big surprise when she checked to see if her rent check had cleared this month. Her bank account was negative by more than $1 million. Xcel Energy had billed Thai Flavor on South Peoria Street more than $1.2 million.Owner Jittilak Chaivann told the Denver Post she opened the bill, but read it wrong. She thought it said $1,280.
Her bills are automatically paid by her bank. When Chaivann called Xcel, the company determined how much the restaurant really owed and took care of the problem.Chaivann said Xcel has promised to pay any overdraft charges and is investigating what happened.
