Former Rocky Reporter Dies After Bike Accident
James Meadow Crashes At Chatfield State Park

DENVER -- Former Rocky Mountain News writer James B. Meadow died Sunday after a bicycle accident.Meadow was airlifted to Swedish Medical Center Friday afternoon from Chatfield State Park. Friends on a Facebook page said he suffered broken bones and a collapsed lung. He was unconscious when he was transported to the hospital. Former Rocky photographer Barry Gutierrez said Meadow was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Meadow's distinct writing style earned him awards during his two decades at the News. In the News' final edition Feb. 27, he described his time writing about the homeless, police funerals and millionaire businessmen. He wrote: "All of them adding to my soul and -- I hope -- some reader's morning."
