A parent at a junior high basketball game attacked a referee because he disagreed with the call, police said Saturday.

The parent hit the referee in the face, reported the Colorado Springs Gazette.

"There was something in the game he didn't like," Colorado Springs police Sgt. Bob Benjamin told the newspaper.

Police said the attack happened around noon at Cheyenne Mountain Junior High. A cane was involved in the attack, he said.

Police detained the 50-year-old parent. His name was not released.

The 42-year-old referee refused medical care.

Benjamin said police are investigating what happened. The basketball game was held for high school students under a YMCA program.
