Truck Driver Charged In Fatal Crash

Alcohol Investigated As Factor In Crash

UPDATED: 1:19 pm MST February 14, 2009

A 34-year-old Nebraska man was killed when his car hit an overturned tractor-trailer in Yuma County Friday night.

The Ford tractor-trailer went off the right side of Highway 34, overcorrected and rolled onto its side, said Trooper Gilbert Mares of the Colorado State Patrol.

Tim L. Steinbeck of Haigler, Neb., was driving west on Highway 34 in a Pontiac Sunfire when he hit the truck's trailer, Mares said. Steinbeck was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mares said the driver of the truck, 75-year-old Jennie V. Suhr of Muscatine, Iowa, was not injured. Suhr has been charged with one count of careless driving causing death, Mares said.

Investigators are looking into whether or not alcohol played a factor in the crash. "The use of alcohol may have contributed on the part of the deceased; however, this incident is still under investigation," Mares said.
