UPDATED: 12:38 pm MST February 5, 2009

Diving crews and detectives have been searching for evidence in a pond upstream from a drainage ditch where the decomposing body of a 13-year-old Broomfield girl was discovered last month.

The West Metro Fire District said its crews were helping Broomfield authorities look for evidence Wednesday in the death of Kelsey Shannon. They were searching a pond at the Broadlands Golf Course. Police wouldn't comment.

The girl's former boyfriend, 18-year-old Alexander Pacheco, is being held without bail on suspicion of first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse, and child abuse resulting in death..

Court records show Kelsey was expected to testify against Pacheco in a theft by receiving case after a teen reported his bike stolen in September.

Pacheco pleaded not guilty Oct. 22, eight days after Kelsey disappeared.

Her body was found on Jan. 21.

Officials have not determined a cause of death.
