Jan. 25, 2009: Volunteer Places Unwanted Dogs In Good Homes

Weimaraner Rescue Places Dozens of Dogs Each Year

A lot of people jump at the chance to own a weimaraner, but some do not consider what it takes to raise the breed.

Weimaraners have smooth, gray coats and an elegant and noble appearance. They also require a lot of attention and activity and many unprepared dog owners have to give their weimaraners up for adoption.

"They are very smart, and they're just as stubborn as they are smart. They are not good for first time dog owners," said Liz Krupinski, a volunteer with Mile High Weimaraner Rescue.

Darci Kunard is the volunteer coordinator at the rescue, and helps place many of these unwanted dogs in loving homes. Just last year, the rescue placed 125 dogs across our state.

"It's very rewarding to see the dogs go to a great home - especially a dog that has been in a really bad situation," said Kunard.

Kunard has volunteered at Mile High Weimaraner Rescue for five years, that's why we have named her this week's 7Everyday Hero.
