Hospital Says Enough Raised To Plan Treatment
POSTED: 5:37 p.m. MST December 19, 2002
DENVER -- A little boy is going to get the treatment needed to save his life as donations to pay for that treatment continue to come in.
Oscar Hernandez, 5 (pictured, left), has leukemia and needs a $314,000 bone marrow transplant and his friends have been racing to collect the money.
In addition to school fundraisers, radio stations and Bank One have been collecting money, and KJME radio held an auction.
Thursday, the fund for Oscar stood at $174,000 and Children's Hospital said that as soon as Oscar's cancer is in remission he will have the transplant.
Oscar's father brought him from Mexico to the United States illegally so that he could get the surgery. Oscar's family says "thank you" to everyone who helped raise the money.
We'll keep you posted on Oscar's progress.
