Sheriff's deputies said a Cheraw man believed to be suicidal was found dead in a car that had been driven off a gully.

Gary Love was reported missing on Jan. 6 by the Otero County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies searched rivers, lakes and canals trying to find him, said Lt. Devonn Rider of the Brent County Sheriff’s Office.

Saturday morning around 10:15 a.m., deputies from Brent County were called to the 5000 block of County Road W.5 on a report of a fatal car accident.

Deputies said they found 411 feet of vehicle tracks leading through a pasture toward the edge of a large gully.

“The vehicle went over the edge of the gully and came to rest approximately 50 feet below,” Rider said.

Love was found inside the car. The coroner reported he died as the result of the crash. A note was found in his vehicle, Rider said.
