A man on the run from police in Colorado Springs in the middle of the night managed to hide in the attic of a family's home without them knowing it.

At 1:27 a.m. Monday, a Colorado Springs police officer on patrol spotted a blue Mitsubishi Lancer that had been reported as a suspicious vehicle in a neighborhood the day before.

Officer Donovan followed the vehicle to the driveway of 4028 E. San Miguel Street where he spotted the driver running out and into a back yard. In his report, Donovan said he found the back door of the home damaged.

Donavan contacted the residents -- an adult female and two children. While talking to them, he heard someone moving in the attic of the home.

The police report said the man did not comply with verbal orders to leave the house, so the CSPD Tactical Enforcement Unit was called to help.

Search and arrest warrants were obtained and during a search of the house, a man identified as Augustine Ramirez, 27, was found hiding in the attic.

Ramirez was taken into custody and was charged with criminal trespassing.
