DENVER -- Maureen Martin, the 16-year-old Douglas County High School cheerleader injured in a train accident last month, was upgraded to fair
condition at Swedish Medical Center Monday.
She was expected to be transferred to Craig Rehabilitation Hospital soon, officials said.
Martin suffered injuries to her brain and right eye when her car
was hit Nov. 12 by a Union Pacific coal train at a crossing in
Castle Rock.
According to Dr. Tom Balazy, who specializes in physical medicine and
Rehabilitation at Swedish, Martin improved in her responses enough to leave the hospital's acute care setting and participate in a traumatic brain injury rehabilitation program at Craig Hospital.
Craig Hospital is a national center for the rehabilitation of patients with traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury.
