COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Police believe a Colorado Springs man shot and killed a man trying to break into his house Sunday night.Police were called to a house at 3212 Virginia Ave. and found Sean Kennedy, 22, dead in the back yard.Kennedy had a gunshot wound, said police spokesman Lt. David Whitlock.
Investigators said Kennedy was trying to break into the home through the back door and was shot by the homeowner.Police said there appears to be no relationship between Kennedy and the home owner. Two other people were home at the time of the shooting, Whitlock said. Colorado's so-called "Make My Day" law passed in 1985 allows people to use deadly force in self-defense in their homes if they feel their lives are in danger.
